1.2 million people in Hong Kong are aged 65 and above. 45% of them live in poverty. The COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing has hit these groups hard, who already suffer from isolation and loneliness, and often suffer from various chronic illnesses.

To alleviate the unprecedented impact from the COVID-19 pandemic, DBS Hong Kong launched a “Care more” initiative, as part of the DBS Stronger Together Fund, to provide much-needed support to the elderly and vulnerable groups in the local community.

One June afternoon, DBS reached out to 150 vulnerable elderly living alone. Besides spreading love and care through quality chats, food packs and fabric masks handmade by DBS staff were also provided to help the elderly better cope with the pandemic.

Through this initiative, DBS hopes to better address both the emotional and physical wellbeing of the elderly.
