Denica Flesch is the founder of Sukkhacitta – a social enterprise, started in 2016, that empowers 354 women in 7 villages across Java, Bali, Kalimantan and Flores to work as artisans producing beautiful, natural dyed and hand painted batik.

One example of their work is how Denica and her team experimented on banana stems that turned out to be the greatest source for creating pretty pastel pink dye for the fabric. They regularly train their artisans to build and improve their skills.

Even experiencing a 70% drop in revenue because of the pandemic, Sukkhacitta insisted that no artisans would be let go.

In 2018, Sukkhacitta was awarded a Social Enterprise grant from the DBS Foundation. Their products were also purchased by DBS Bank for its clients, not just in Indonesia but also in other DBS markets. Such support has helped their business to continue and keep their artisans employed.
