Pankaj Mishra

Writer, Fellow, Royal Society of Literature

Pankaj Mishra is an Indian essayist, novelist, and intellectual born in 1969 in northern India. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Allahabad University and a Master’s in English Literature from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

Mishra is renowned for his insightful literary and political essays, published widely in outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian, The New Yorker, and the London Review of Books. His acclaimed works explore themes of colonialism, politics, and international affairs, including titles like From the Ruins of Empire and The Age of Anger.

His latest book, The World After Gaza, examines the historical roots of the ongoing conflict and the fractured response from the global community. Mishra has received numerous awards for his contributions to literature and thought, including the Windham–Campbell Literature Prize and the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding. Pankaj Mishra was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2008.
