Kevin Tu is Chief Advisor China at Agora Energiewende and an Adjunct Professor at the School of Environment at Beijing Normal University. He also serves as a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University, the French Institute of International Relations (Ifri), the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, and the Institute of Energy at Peking University.
From 2021 to 2026, Tu served as the Founding Managing Director of Agora Energy China. Previously, he held a series of senior positions, including Head of China Cooperation at the International Energy Agency, Director of the China Energy and Climate Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Partner at a leading energy consultancy in Vancouver, Director of Marine Operations at China’s largest importer and distributor of liquefied petroleum gas, and Construction Project Manager at Sinopec.
Tu has more than two decades of professional experience in energy, environmental affairs, and government relations across the Asia-Pacific region, North America, and Europe. His career spans the energy industry, consulting, international organisations, think tanks, and academia. His research and professional interests encompass energy transition, fossil-fuel value chains, energy-sector reform, climate change, and corporate strategy and transformation. He has a particular interest in the evolution of China’s relations with major economies and the implications for the country’s energy and climate policies.
Combining first-hand industry experience with policy research and international engagement, Tu works at the intersection of practice and scholarship. He is committed to advancing a more systematic understanding of China’s energy transition and strengthening professional exchange and policy dialogue between China and the international energy and climate community.
